Midshipmen celebrate graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD
by tossing thier midshipman covers into the air. They no longer need these, so family
members and journalists like myself swooped in to snag them. The one i retrieved is on
top of my desk at work.

As you can tell by the sky, it came down later that afternoon.

Just think. All those people in that picture are now Officers in the USN or USMC...
do we really need THAT many officers O.o?

In any event, after basicly 4 years of Boot Camp, i'd enjoy my freedom like that too.
Really powerful moment.
Oorah shipmates!

This is a great shot! I love the captured motion of all the hats up in the air, and their faces.

A great picture, you could have cropped a bit of the right to center the guys with their arms in the air though

Hmm...
Thanks for the tip. I'll try that.
This one was difficult to crop, as i was trying not to get 'half-people'.

Not really. Ensigns are actually the fun officers.
They're still too shellshocked from officer traning to realize they outrank you.
I hem them up for uniform violations all the time, and i'm only a E-2

well my bro was an MM on the USS IKE, and he hated when midshipmen and ensigns would try to tell him how to do his job. I'm only an E-1, i'm still a DEPPER too, but I've put in for an early ship date, I'm supposed to ship in november and Great Mistakes in November jsut isnt fun

Wow. I'm impressed. Congratulations on the decision.
You know, that's exactly when I went just one year ago.
Honestly, Winter time is the best time to go to boot camp.

RTC is harsh, but it's perfectly possible.
Keep good military bearing when talking to all superiors
on in-processing and good things can happen.

Best of luck to you, and keep in touch shipmate :)

the greatest advice i heard was to be the guy who's name the RTCs don't know; if they don't know my name by the end of boot camp, mission accomplished.

That can work in both ways.
If the RDC's know your name, it's either because you're really good, or you are a dirtbag.
If you can't totally excell and be the best in your division, then do not draw attention to yourself.
That's alot harder than it sounds.

Also bear in mind, RDC's have the option of meritoriously promoting people out of boot camp.
You have to stand out in a good way to be one of those people *probably will only be 8 of them*

Shoot me a private message, i'll give you my e-mail, or AIM, and if you want, we can talk some time before you have to go.
